At UCF, Talent Development is more than training—it is about unleashing potential, strengthening leadership, and shaping a culture where people thrive. I believe leadership is not about position but about influence, trust, and the ability to bring out the best in others through service. My philosophy is grounded in authenticity, collaboration, and continuous growth: leading with clarity, building strong relationships, and creating spaces where every voice matters.

We are on a journey to reimagine how UCF develops talent across the employee lifecycle—from onboarding and supervisory skills to leadership growth and team effectiveness. Our focus is on building practical, research-based programs that align with UCF’s mission and values, while also addressing the evolving needs of our workforce.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there an online option for New Employee Orientation?

Currently NEO is in-person but there are several components that are available online.

  • I completed benefits orientation and reviewed the onboarding center. Do I still need to attend the in-person NEO?

Yes, the in-person NEO is still required unless you’ve received confirmation from HR that you’re exempt. It covers additional onboarding topics not included in the online modules.

  • I registered for NEO after the due date. Is that okay?

Yes, the due date is based off your hire date. As long as you’re registered and attend the session, you’re on track. Also, make sure that you complete the benefits.

  • I attended the benefits lab but received a reminder about NEO. Do I still need to go?

Yes, attending the benefits lab does not replace the NEO. The lab focuses on benefits enrollment, while NEO covers broader onboarding topics.

  • I’m scheduled for NEO but will like to schedule an earlier session. Can I do that?

NEO is based on availability so it depends if a session is at capacity. Contact Talent Development via email hrlearning@ucf.edu to explore options.

  • I’m confused about when and how to enroll in health benefits. What should I do?

After completing the online course and attending the in-person session, employees who still have questions or need support may contact Benefits at benefits@ucf.edu to schedule an enrollment lab.

  • I’m an OPS employee. Do I need to attend NEO?

OPS (Other Personnel Services) employees are not required to attend New Employee Orientation.

  • Who pays for Strengths Training, and can I use paycheck deduction or an Inter-Departmental Transfer form?

Typically, the department covers the cost using an Inter-Departmental Transfer form. Paycheck deduction is not currently an option.

  • Where can I find courses to enroll?

The Talent Development training calendar is available online.

  • How do I register for a training course?

To register for courses and get more course information (such as location and cost), follow the instructions below.

    • Sign in with your NID credentials.
    • In the search bar at the top of the Workday screen, type “Browse Learning Content” and select “Browse Learning Content” from the search results.
    • Search for the course by entering the course number or course name in the catalog search bar; you can narrow the search by using the filters on the left side of the screen.

    • Select the desired offering and click “OK.”
    • On the next screens, click “Submit” and “Done.”
  • I registered for a course last week. Is my spot confirmed?

If you received a confirmation email or see the course listed in your Workday learning profile, your registration is confirmed.

  • I am waitlisted for [course]. Can I be added?

The number of participants for instructor-led sessions is limited due to the interactive nature of our courses. As enrolled participants drop out, Workday Learning automatically enrolls employees in the order that they appear on the waitlist and will inform you if your enrollment status changes. Additionally, our team will pass on your interest to the instructor in case they can increase the number of participants.

  • Am I eligible to attend workshops or take training as a Contingent Worker (Non-Paid)?

Yes. Even though employees are in the family as Contingent Employees -Non-Paid (Volunteer Employees), they are eligible to attend workshops or take training.

  • I am not a supervisor, but I would like to work on relevant skills. Are there courses I can attend, so I can gain these skills for my future career as a supervisor?

Yes. Although there are some programs designed specifically for people who are currently in supervisory roles, there are many programs open to all employees who are interested in developing a variety of leadership skills.
