What is the FICA Replacement Plan and who participates in it?
The FICA Replacement Plan is a defined contribution plan authorized under section 401(a) of the IRS code. It is a tax-qualified private retirement plan in which employees in certain positions are mandated to participate in lieu of paying Social Security FICA taxes. Enrollment in the FICA Replacement Plan is automatic and mandatory for all OPS Non-Students, Adjunct Faculty, Post-Doctoral Scholars, and Physician Learners (Medical Residents).
