Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
The Family and Medical Leave Act is a federal law that covers all UCF employees; it entitles UCF employees who meet certain eligibility requirements to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave for specified medical and family reasons within a 12-month period. It also includes Military Family Leave for qualifying exigencies and Injured Service Member Care Leave. Beginning July 1, 2023, the UCF method for calculating the 12-month period will change from a fixed fiscal year to a “rolling” 12-month period measured backward from the date of an employee’s first use of FMLA leave for a given qualifying event.
