The University of Central Florida contains two types of employees:
Line employees and OPS employees. Please use the following definitions
as a resource for classifying employees.
Line Employees
A line employee is a type of employee who is eligible for benefits
and is either exempt or non-exempt from overtime.
Line employees include:
Administrative and Professional (A&P): A professional,
benefits holding position that is exempt from overtime.
Faculty (FAC): An instructional, benefits holding position
that is exempt from overtime.
University Support Personnel System (USPS): A benefits
holding position that is either exempt or non-exempt from overtime.
Post Doctoral Associates (PDAs): A contracted position
that is eligible for some benefits.
Executive Service (EXEC): A position that is directly
assigned by the President.
OPS Employees
An OPS, or Other Personal Services, employee is a type of employee
who is hired into an hourly or contracted temporary position without
benefits.
OPS employees include:
Adjuncts: A contracted, or fixed bi-weekly, position that
includes an Adjunct Faculty Agreement and an established job code.
Graduate Assistantships: A contracted, or fixed bi-weekly,
position that requires employees to be enrolled in graduate-level
courses at UCF and includes a Graduate Assistantship Contract.
OPSGRD: An hourly position that requires employees to
be enrolled in graduate-level courses at UCF, but are not employed
in their field of study and are not receiving tuition assistance.
Non-Students: Hourly positions for employees who are not
enrolled in any level of courses at UCF and are processed as USPS
job codes. Non-student employees cannot work simultaneously in both
non-student and student positions.
Undergraduate Students: An hourly position that requires
employees to be enrolled in undergraduate-level courses at UCF,
are processed as job code OPSSTU and are either exempt or subject
to FICA taxes. Student employees cannot work simultaneously in both
student and non-student positions.
