news_iconAnnual Benefits Open Enrollment

October 14, 2016

The state’s annual Open Enrollment period – the time of year when eligible state employees can change their insurance benefits options – begins Monday, October 17 at 8:00 a.m. and ends Friday, November 4 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Once a year, it is good practice to evaluate your health care needs. To determine if a benefit change would benefit you and your family, ask yourself the following questions: Has my family situation changed (added dependents, moved, etc.)? Do I expect any additional health care costs this year? Is my health care provider still in my network?

You can research your benefits options by visiting http://mybenefits.myflorida.com/.

You will receive your Open Enrollment packet in the mail from People First by mid-October. It is very important to review your personalized benefits statement carefully. Please note that if you make changes online in the People First system, remember to select the green Complete Enrollment button and enter your People First password when you are ready to save changes. You can change your benefits as many times as you want before the November 4 deadline. In early December, you will receive a confirmation statement to make sure all of your changes have been made appropriately.

Please note, if you do not make any changes during Open Enrollment, the benefits shown on your Benefit Statement will remain in effect for all of 2017. Any changes you make will remain in effect if you pay premiums on time and remain eligible, unless you make changes allowed by a qualifying status change event.

If you need additional information about how to enroll, please contact the People First Service Center at 866-663-4735. If you have questions about what the insurance plans cover, call the insurance carriers directly at http://mybenefits.myflorida.com/health/contact_information. Additional information can also be found on the Open Enrollment page of the HR website here.

For questions, please contact the UCF Benefits Section at 407-823-2771 or benefits@ucf.edu.

news_iconPublic Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program

January 7, 2016

If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization such as UCF, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program administered through the U.S. Department of Education.

The PSLF Program was established to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. Under this program, you may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance due on your William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct Loan Program) loans after you have made 120 qualifying payments on those loans while employed full-time by certain public service employers.

If you make 120 qualifying payments on your eligible federal student loans after October 1, 2007 before you qualify for the loan forgiveness, the first forgiveness of loan balances would become eligible to be granted in October 2017.

Visit the UCF Human Resources Website for eligibility requirements, frequently asked questions and resources you can use to manage student loan debt.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the HR Benefits Section at 407-823-2771.
